A coroner stated that a mother of three whose disappearance prompted an extensive search drowned in the river where her remains were discovered.

The 55-year-old Gaynor Lord was reported missing on December 8 after neglecting to return home from her department store job in Norwich.

Police divers recovered her remains from the River Wensum one week later.

The cause of her death was ruled to be “immersion and drowning” at an inquest that commenced on Wednesday.

Christopher Leach, the assistant coroner, postponed the hearing until October 1, at which point a comprehensive inquest will be conducted.

Ms Lord’s family filed a missing person report after she failed to return home from her place of employment as a retail assistant at Jarrold’s department store, specifically the gin counter.

Police in Norfolk stated they did not suspect “third-party involvement” when her remains were discovered on December 15.
