The police watchdog reports that an individual, allegedly in his 30s, threatened residents inside an address in Southwark, London.
It has emerged that the man fatally shot by officers in southeast London was armed with crossbows, a dagger, a sword, and a hatchet.
According to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), two bullets were discharged from a police firearm after officers were unable to communicate with the suspect.
The watchdog initiated an investigation, as is customary, following a fatal police shooting.
The IOPC said a 30-year-old man in body armour threatened to hurt occupants in a Southwark, London, house.
At least one address resident was informed that the man was well-known.
“Local officers attempted to speak with the man but were repelled; armed officers were dispatched and swiftly arrived at the scene,” the force stated.
“A firearm discharged by the police was witnessed upon the man’s entry into the premises.”
Despite immediate first aid from London Ambulance Service officers and paramedics, the man tragically passed away at the scene.
Police reported that two occupants of the Bywater Place residence sustained minor injuries.
Mel Palmer, regional director of the IOPC, stated, “Our deepest condolences go out to everyone impacted by this tragic event. We have alerted the deceased’s next of kin and will explain our position when the time comes. They will be consistently apprised of the progress of our investigation.
