On Tuesday, the 75-year-old monarch, who has spent the majority of his time at Sandringham following his initial course of treatment, met with Rishi Sunak for his weekly in-person audience at Buckingham Palace.
Since his cancer diagnosis, the King claims he has been “reduced to tears” by the “many wonderful messages and cards” he has received.
Rishi Sunak was addressed by the 75-year-old monarch during their first in-person encounter since Buckingham Palace disclosed he had a “form of cancer.”
“The abundance of heartfelt messages and cards has frequently brought me to tears,” the King confided in Mr. Sunak.
As the prime minister remarked, “It was a pleasure to see you,” the monarch joked, “I’m afraid there was a bit of a lapse.”
He added, “From what I’ve heard, there has been considerably more potential focus on those major, wonderful cancer charities, many of which I have supported for years.”
Mr. Sunak replied, “They perform an abundance of admirable work.”
Since finishing his first cancer treatment in London last week, the monarch has lived at Sandringham, Norfolk.
The King smiled and waved to fans at St. Mary Magdalene Church on Sunday before a service.
While undergoing treatment for an enlarged prostate, His Majesty was diagnosed with a form of cancer, according to an announcement made by Buckingham Palace on 5 February.
No information was disclosed by the palace regarding the nature of the malignancy or the treatment regimen.
The Queen revealed her spouse’s condition in Salisbury Cathedral earlier this month.
She informed critical care paramedic Ben Abbott, “He is performing exceptionally well considering the circumstances. He is deeply impacted by international letters and communications. That is extremely uplifting.”
The revelation regarding his cancer proliferated. In response, Prince Harry, the King’s youngest son, made an unusual visit to the UK from the US.
In the interim, Prince William, who has been assisting the King with royal duties, made his first public appearance. This was since his father’s diagnosis on February 8.
