At the Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony, artists such as UB40 and Dexys Midnight Runners will perform.
Later, they will perform at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium to mark the conclusion of the 11-day sporting tournament.
In addition, a scene from the musical Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby will be performed at the event.
Martin Green, the chief creative officer of Birmingham 2022, stated that it would “highlight the dynamic energy and rich cultural history of our magnificent city.”
Beverley Knight of Wolverhampton and Jorja Smith of Walsall will also be part of the West Midlands lineup.
Smith, 25 years old, won the 2019 Brit Award for Best British Female Artist for her song Be Honest.
Apache Indian, Laura Mvula, Goldie, Jacob Banks, Jaykae, Ash, Mahalia, Musical Youth, Neelam Gill, Panjabi MC, Raza Hussain, Talulah-Eve, and The Selecter are among the additional performers.
The concert, developed by directors Amber Rimell and Bronski from Tawbox – famed for their work at Glastonbury and the Brits – is intended to showcase the region’s past, present, and future musical ability.
A sneak peek of Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby will be aired, along with a performance by Laura Mvula of a newly commissioned song inspired by the show’s theme song, Nick Cave’s Red Right Hand.
Written and adapted for the stage by creator Steven Knight and directed by Benoit Swan Pouffer, the musical’s world premiere will take place at the Birmingham Hippodrome on September 27 as part of the Birmingham 2022 Festival.
In front of a live audience of 30,000, the closing ceremony will include a formal handover to the Australian state of Victoria, which will host the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
