While the attacks are under investigation, diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, and kite sailing are prohibited in the area.

The body of a Romanian woman in her late forties was discovered near the resort of Hurghada, mere hours after the murder of an Austrian woman of 68 years of age.

Both attacks occurred within 600 meters of one another off the coast of Sahl Hasheesh, and an online video suggests a mako shark was involved in at least one of the incidents.

Major General Amr Hanafi, the governor of the Red Sea Governorate, has issued an order suspending all activity in the area surrounding the attacks.

All “sea activities,” including scuba diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, kite sailing, and fishing boats, have been banned.

The most recent shark attacks in the region are believed to be the first since 2020.

The Austrian woman was swimming when she was attacked and lost both of her limbs.

According to an Egyptian health official, she was barely alive when she arrived at the hospital and passed away shortly thereafter.

According to a video posted online, the woman was attacked by a mako shark while she was near the shore.

Scuba diving is particularly well-known in the Egyptian resort town of Hurghada, which stretches for about 40 kilometers along the Red Sea.

As the resort was beginning to recover from the coronavirus pandemic, the resort is attacked.

The Egyptian Ministry of Environment stated in a statement that a committee had been formed to investigate the circumstances and scientific causes of the attacks.
