According to German authorities, some 80,000 Iranians and their allies marched in Berlin in solidarity with ongoing protests in Iran.
It is thought that Saturday’s demonstration in the German capital was the largest ever held by the Iranian diaspora.
Iranians from all around Europe yelled the demonstrators’ slogan, “Women, Life, and Freedom!”
Six weeks have passed since the death of a young lady in jail sparked protests in Iran.
Mahsa Amini, 22 years old, passed away on September 13 after being arrested by morality police in Tehran for reportedly wearing her headscarf too loosely.
The police refuted claims that she had been struck in the head with a baton and stated that she had suffered a heart attack.
Several world capitals, including Washington, staged meetings on Saturday, where thousands marched.
According to the rally’s organizers, the number of demonstrators in Berlin was closer to 100,000.
Their demands included the imposition of additional Western sanctions against Iran’s formidable Revolutionary Guard.
The demonstrators stated that Iranian diplomats should be expelled from Western capitals.
One demonstrator told, “It’s stunning, it’s great.” “Before and after the revolution, never before have so many people in our nation been unified regardless of their political convictions. I am quite elated.”
The Iranian government has blocked internet access in many locations, yet footage of protesters in at least several cities has surfaced on social media.
Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) in Iran says that 244 demonstrators, including 32 minors, were killed by security forces during the operation.
It is stated that over 12,500 others have been imprisoned, most of whom are youth and children.
