According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the conflict against Hamas will escalate in the coming days. He informed his party members that he spent Monday morning in Gaza and that the Israeli military campaign in that region was “far from over.” His remarks follow days after the United States secretary of state advised Israel to reduce the severity of its assaults.
The conflict commenced on October 7th, subsequent to a lethal assault on Israeli communities spearheaded by Hamas. The Hamas-controlled health ministry in Gaza reported on Monday that Israeli bombardments had claimed the lives of approximately 20,674 Palestinians since then. The majority of fatalities have reportedly been mothers and children.
On October 7, 1200 individuals, the majority of whom were civilians, were killed when Hamas gunmen stormed across the frontier. Enough to 240 individuals were returned to Gaza in captivity. According to Israel, 132 individuals are still being detained.
Netanyahu has sworn to annihilate Hamas and repatriate the Israeli hostages. He informed a Likud party meeting on Monday that Israeli troops he encountered during his visit to Gaza had urged the country to continue battling. Meanwhile, Arab and Israeli media say that Egypt has proposed a truce between the sides. As per available reports, the strategy entailed the gradual unchaining of all Israeli captives and an unspecified quantity of Palestinian prisoners incarcerated in Israeli jails throughout a period of fifteen days, culminating in the cessation of Israel’s offensive.
As part of a prior temporary ceasefire agreement mediated by Qatar, Palestinian prisoners were exchanged. This led to the liberation of dozens of hostages from Gaza.
Israel and Hamas have thus far both opposed mounting cries for a cessation of hostilities.
Mr. Netanyahu informed the Israeli parliament on Monday that dozens of hostages had been previously liberated under military pressure. Without military pressure, operational pressure, and political pressure, it will be impossible to free all the abductees; therefore, one thing will not be done: we will not cease fighting, he stated.
The health ministry of Gaza reported on Sunday that an Israeli airstrike in the Al-Maghazi refugee camp in the strip’s centre resulted in the deaths of at least seventy individuals and the destruction of a densely populated residential building.

According to the Palestine Red Crescent Society, main highways connecting Maghazi to two additional refugee camps, Al-Bureij and Al-Nuseirat, were closed as a result of “intense” Israeli air strikes, “obstructing the progress of rescue teams and ambulances.”
The Israeli military stated that “reports of an incident in the Maghazi camp” had been received. The Israeli Defence Forces [IDF] are dedicated to upholding international law, which includes minimizing injury to civilians, despite the difficulties presented by Hamas terrorists operating within civilian zones in Gaza, the statement continued.
