According to fire brigade officials, the explosion caused a conflagration as well. Rescue efforts are currently underway with the expectation of locating survivors.

In Italy, four bodies have been recovered after a detonation at a power facility situated adjacent to a dam.

Three individuals remain missing, and five others were injured in the explosion. Three employees remained unharmed.

At approximately 3 p.m. (or 1 p.m. in the United Kingdom), fire brigade officials report that an explosion occurred at the dam on Lake Suviana, one of three artificial lakes that supply energy to the power plant in Bargi, close to Bologna and Florence.

According to utility company Enel, a fire broke out at the hydroelectric power facility.

Additionally, according to a spokesperson, the dam basin remained undamaged.

Luca Cari, a fire brigade representative, stated that twelve firefighter teams were “attempting to access the premises and reach the level where the accident occurred” and that “divers are also prepared to intervene.”

Officials further stated that investigations would be conducted 40 meters underground due to the fire outbreak eight floors below in the power facility.

The regional director of the fire department, Francesco Notaro, stated, “Although the explosion caused flooding, it is possible that they sought refuge elsewhere on the slab after the explosion.” “The only hope is to discover another individual alive.”

Giorgia Meloni, the prime minister of Italy, stated that she had been informed of the “horrendous news.”

She further stated, “The government and I extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and injured individuals involved.”

We extend our gratitude to the firefighters who arrived promptly, the rescuers, and everyone diligently searching for the missing at these hours.

It occurred two months after a structural failure on a construction site in Florence resulted in the fatalities of five laborers.

To protest workplace safety, two of the largest unions in Italy are scheduled to hold a four-hour nationwide strike on Thursday.
