The group was able to remove a part of the board and plaster depicting a woman in a gas mask, dressing gown, and holding a fire extinguisher, but they were discovered and the mural was recovered.
A group attempted to remove a Banksy painting of a battle-scarred wall in Ukraine, according to the region’s governor.
They were able to remove a piece of board and plaster depicting a woman in a gas mask, dressing gown, and clutching a fire extinguisher.
Oleksiy Kuleba stated in a statement that the mural was recovered after the suspects were sighted visiting the area in Hostomel, a city near Kyiv.
He stated that the photograph was still intact and was being protected by authorities.
“These images are, after all, emblems of our struggle against the enemy,” he said. “We’ll do everything we can to preserve them as a symbol of our victory.”
The police released photographs of a yellow wall in the Hostomel that had a big section chopped down to the masonry.
They reported that several arrests were made at the location.
Banksy stated that he painted the mural along with six others last month in areas of Ukraine that had endured particularly intense fighting since the Russian invasion in late February.
One depicts a female gymnast balancing on a damaged structure, another depicts a man resembling Russian President Vladimir Putin being flipped during a judo match with a young boy, and yet another depicts two children using a metal tank trap as a seesaw.
The artwork of Banksy can fetch millions of pounds on the art market.
