Gmail is down for users globally, preventing them from sending emails or accessing their accounts.
The Google outage began around 3 p.m. ET and is affecting users in the United States, the United Kingdom, portions of Europe, Australia, Asia, and South America.
Gmail is used by over 1.8 billion people worldwide, although the exact number of those affected on Thursday remains unknown.
Users expressed dissatisfaction with the email service troubles on X, with some screenshots of an error message that reads, ‘Oops, something went wrong.’
DownDetector, a website that analyzes online issues, revealed that users reported problems with Gmail throughout the day, but a complete outage occurred in the afternoon.

That is when the majority of Americans are at work.
Approximately 82 percent of issues reported to DownDetector were related to sending emails, 15 percent to server connections, and only three percent to the website.
Gmail is the world’s most popular email provider, with users in over 170 nations and territories.
Google’s Workspace dashboard displays ChromeOS, Gmail, and Google Drive service disruptions.
‘Our engineering team continues to research the issue,’ the corporation states on its website.
‘Gmail: Users attempting to send emails or save drafts with attachments will encounter difficulties.
The alert also states that there is no workaround at this moment.
