Ange Postecoglou advised Tottenham to rectify their careless play following their reinstatement atop the Premier League standings after a resounding 2-0 triumph over Fulham.

Satisfaction and Discontent

Spurs’ unbeaten start to the season was extended by goals from Son Heung-min and James Maddison, but Postecoglou was not wholly content. The manager expressed dissatisfaction with the second-half performance of his team and urged his players to progress prior to Friday’s trip to Crystal Palace.

“Our results and performances off the bench were extremely encouraging to begin the season,” Postecoglou said. “Working diligently was necessary tonight. It was my understanding that we needed to exercise patience. The Fulham team was exceptionally well-organized. Exceptional pressing was performed. I am, however, extremely dissatisfied with the second half. We have not had a worse 45 minutes with the ball all year. It is imperative that we maintain a disciplined approach.

“I have no intention of making a point. We exercised some laxity. We made a few additional details. I’ve been in this business long enough to know that attempting to take liberties will swiftly bring you down. I shall not allow the victory over the opposition to obscure the opportunity at which we can make further strides. Nothing was rational about it. The responsibility of providing feedback to the participants falls to me. They are motivated to develop and advance. I could so effortlessly sit here and declare, “We’re an incredible team.” We must strive to improve ourselves. We certainly can.”

Manager’s Expectations

With seven victories and two draws so far this season, Spurs amassed 23 points with the victory, giving Postecoglou his best start as a Premier League manager. During his first nine games in command of Chelsea, the Australian has accumulated one more point than Guus Hiddink did in February 2009.

Fulham’s Perspective

Calvin Bassey’s two errors cost Fulham the ball, as he was responsible for both of Spurs’ goals. The west Londoners also maintained their thirteenth position, and Marco Silva was pleased with his players’ performance. “Due to some errors we committed, we were punished,” said Fulham’s manager. “There were times when they were dangerous on the counter, and they ought to have been punished accordingly.” Following the second goal, we had ample opportunities to extend the lead to 2-1 and retaliate, but we were unable to do so.

“While I wish for more goals, the positive news is that we have been generating more opportunities in recent contests. “Our level of creativity in the loss to Tottenham is encouraging.”

Silva defended Bassey following the defender’s distribution resulting in a loss for Fulham. He stated, “Our players are encouraged to construct from the back.” “Such is our course of action; it is conceivable.” We must certainly comprehend the present circumstances. An identical goal was conceded by us to begin the second half. We were regrettably penalized for committing an identical sort of goal.
