England’s bowlers mowed over the West Indies’ tail on route to a 142-run victory in the opening one-day international in Antigua.

After the home team won the toss and elected to play, England scored 307 for seven in 50 overs, mostly due to the contributions of Nat Sciver and Danni Wyatt.

Sciver, who returned to the team after a gap due to mental health difficulties, struck nine fours and appeared on track for a century before being dismissed for 90 off 96 deliveries.

Wyatt celebrated her 100th ODI appearance by blasting three sixes and four fours throughout her 68-ball innings before falling to Chinelle Henry, who finished with three for 59 off 10 overs.

Wicketkeeper Amy Jones also scored 30 runs off 29 balls, while Sophie Ecclestone remained unbeaten with 19 runs off 21 balls as England set a challenging goal for the home team.

Despite the early loss of opener Aaliyah Alleyne, the remainder of the West Indies top order established a solid foundation for their pursuit. They were in danger on three for 85 when Rashada Williams ran out on 34 and Shemaine Campbell was out for a duck in the very next over.

Kycia Knight, the leading scorer for the West Indies, was dismissed for 39 by captain Heather Knight shortly after. The remainder of the order was helpless as England dismissed the hosts for only 165 runs.

Charlie Dean led England with the ball, accumulating four wickets and thirty-five runs from nine overs.

As the new head coach, Jon Lewis began his term with a resounding victory, it was a great start. The second of three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) will take place in Antigua on Wednesday, followed by five Twenty-Over matches.
