Cesare Casadei has been acquired by Chelsea from Internazionale for £12 million plus £4 million in add-ons.
The Italian midfielder, who is 19 years old, has signed a six-year contract. The transaction is another evidence of Chelsea’s new strategy to recruit young talent from rival clubs. This summer, they have already acquired the services of Gabriel Slonina, Carney Chukwuemeka, Zak Sturge, Eddie Beach, and Omari Hutchinson.
It is unknown if Casadei will be loaned out. There is a possibility that the midfielder will be allowed to contend for a spot on the first-team roster, but it is more likely that he is one for the future. The contracts of veteran duo N’Golo Kanté and Jorginho expire next summer.
The new Chelsea owners have spent considerably this summer and continue to pursue additional signings. They have heard signs that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is willing to return to England, but they have not yet reached a transfer agreement with Barcelona for the former Arsenal forward.
Thomas Tuchel is eager to add additional firepower to his team and is familiar with Aubameyang. It is believed that Barcelona is seeking €30 million for the Gabonese forward.
Chelsea is also interested in acquiring Everton winger Anthony Gordon and Leicester central defender Wesley Fofana. If Leicester refuses to sell Fofana, they are anticipated to pursue other defensive players. Chelsea is willing to loan out 23-year-old central defender Trevoh Chalobah.
However, they are uncertain about loaning Christian Pulisic to Manchester United, who have expressed interest in acquiring the American winger. Chelsea is open to bids for Pulisic, who is also a target for Newcastle, Atletico Madrid, and Juventus, but they would love to sell him to Manchester United.
West Ham has resumed negotiations with Chelsea for the transfer of left-back Emerson Palmieri. The initial delay was caused by the defender’s salary demands. West Ham has rekindled its interest in Emerson, but no fee has been agreed upon with Chelsea.
