Alex Fletcher, a forward for Bath City, is needing intensive treatment after suffering a severe head injury in Tuesday’s abandoned National League South match against Dulwich Hamlet.

In the fifth minute of the contest, Fletcher collided with a billboard and was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. The fencing surrounding the Twerton Park stadium in Bath is strengthened with concrete blocks.

Wednesday morning, the 23-year-parents old’s published a statement saying that he required “urgent neurosurgery to stabilize his condition” and that his condition remained stable but critical.

“Everyone at Bath City is sending love, strength, and support to Alex and his family,” the club said in a statement.

Fletcher moved to Bath from Tiverton Town in January 2021 and was voted player of the year after scoring 19 goals during the previous season. The forward began his professional career with Plymouth before spending loan periods with Torquay, Aldershot, and Tiverton before departing the club permanently in 2020.
