Russia admits accidentally hitting one of its cities near Ukraine.

The explosion damaged apartments in Belgorod and created a 20-meter-wide crater on one of the city’s main avenues, according to the regional governor.

Russia has acknowledged accidentally bombing one of its cities near Ukraine after two women were injured and buildings were damaged by a large explosion.

The city of Belgorod was struck by “aviation ammunition” from a Su-34 supersonic fighter-bomber jet late on Thursday, according to the Russian Ministry of Defence.

The defense ministry did not corroborate the fired weapon type.

“As a Sukhoi Su-34 air force aircraft flew over the city of Belgorod, aviation ammunition was accidentally discharged,” the statement said.

According to Tass, the defense ministry stated that some structures were damaged and that an investigation was already underway.

The regional governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov, reported that two women were injured in the explosion and declared a state of emergency.

Mr. Gladkov reported via the Telegram messaging app that one of the principal streets contained a 20-meter-wide crater.

Four automobiles and four apartment structures were damaged in the explosion, he added.

The footage from the site shows concrete piles on the street, several damaged vehicles, and a structure with shattered windows.

The video appears to show a vehicle inverted on the store’s roof.

Ukraine has attacked southern Russian fuel and munitions installations, including Belgorod, since February 2022.

Mr. Gladkov stated in July that a Ukrainian missile attack on Belgorod resulted in at least four deaths.

Russia’s deputy UN ambassador denied that his country is committing war crimes by forcibly relocating youngsters.

“Of course, it’s not a war crime,” said Dmitry Polyanskiy. We have been accused of kidnapping children, but in reality, we are primarily rescuing children from the Ukrainian army.

“[This] is yet another defamation campaign against Russia that exploits the issue of children in war.”
