The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) hunt for a new head coach suffered new setbacks on Saturday as Australia’s Tom Moody and Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower both withdrew from consideration.
Due to his commitment to franchise cricket, Moody, who is in Dubai for the International T20 League (ILT20), claimed it is “very improbable” that he will be in the race.
“I am now occupied with the ILT20 league with the Desert Wipers. Also a forthcoming assignment. Therefore it is quite doubtful that I will be in the running for the Pakistan head coach position.
“However, Pakistan is a talented cricket nation, so whoever becomes head coach will undoubtedly have an entertaining time.”
Flower, who is also in Dubai for the ILT20, confirmed his unavailability.
Flower, who is also affiliated with Pakistan Super League (PSL) team Multan Sultans, told the media in Abu Dhabi that he was unable for the post due to his involvement with franchise cricket, and that he had informed the PCB of this.
It is important to note that incumbent head coach Saqlain Mushtaq’s contract expires in February. And that the PCB’s attempts to rehire Champions Trophy-winning coach Mickey Arthur have already failed.
