- Passing of Mohamed Al Fayed at Age 94
- His Legacy as the Former Owner of Harrods and Fulham Football Club
- Campaign and Controversy Surrounding the Death of His Son Dodi Fayed and Princess Diana
Mohamed Al Fayed has passed away at age 94.
One day after the 26th anniversary of his son’s demise, Al Fayed passes away.
After Friday prayers at London Central Mosque in Regent’s Park, Al Fayed was interred in the heart of London.
Former owner of Harrods and Fulham football team, the Egyptian businessman was famous.
In May of 2010, he sold Harrods to Qatar Holdings.
Three years later, he sold Fulham FC to the American entrepreneur Shahid Khan.
Dodi Fayed, the son of Al Fayed, perished in the same car as Princess Diana on August 31, 1997, when it crashed in Paris.
He spent a long time claiming that British security agencies planned the disaster after their deaths.
However, French authorities determined it was an accident caused in part by Henri Paul’s excessive speed and blood alcohol level. An investigation by the British police concurred.
Friday, Fulham FC paid tribute to the industrialist.
His successor, Shahid Khan, released the following statement: “On behalf of everyone at Fulham Football Club, I extend my deepest condolences to the family and associates of Mohamed Al Fayed, who passed away at the age of 94.
“The history of Fulham cannot be recounted without mentioning Al Fayed’s positive influence as chairman.
“His legacy will be remembered for our promotion to the Premier League, a Europa League Final appearance, and magical moments from players and teams”.
I always relished my time with Al Fayed, who was wise, colorful, and devoted to Fulham, and I will be eternally grateful for his confidence in me to succeed him as chairman in 2013.
I join our fans around the world in celebrating the life of Mohamed Al Fayed, whose legacy will remain at the heart of Fulham Football Club’s tradition.
Before relocating to London in the 1960s, he founded a shipping company in Alexandria, where he was born in 1929.
After that, he befriended monarchy and high society and bought the Ritz Hotel in Paris (1979) and Harrods (1985).
He also purchased Fulham in 1997 for £6.25 million.
Al Fayed became Princess Diana’s friend through his support of charities and events visited by the Royal family.
