- ITV documentary explores family’s struggle
Following his hospitalizations since March 2020, when he contracted Covid, the spouse of ITV host Kate Garraway is currently in a “critical condition.
Derek Draper, a former political adviser aged 56, has suffered from severe complications and permanent organ injury as a result of the disease.
It was alleged on Sunday that he had returned to the hospital following another setback.
ITV co-stars of Garraway have extended their condolences to the family.
Charlotte Hawkins stated on Monday while hosting ITV’s Good Morning Britain: “We wished to begin with an update. Over the weekend, it was unfortunate to report that Derek, the spouse of Kate, is presently in a critical medical condition, as reported in the news.
Co-host Richard Madeley stated, “We just wanted to let Derek, Kate, and the entire family know that we are all here thinking of them, and we know that many of you are as well. During this extremely, extremely difficult time, they have our sincerest, most sincere condolences.”
Hawkins further stated, “Indeed, it is. “Many affections from each of us.”
After spending over a year in the hospital, Draper returned home in April 2021, according to Garraway.
“He is essentially immobile,” she stated at the moment. Indeed, he needs significant assistance. And it’s not just assistance with caring for him. As you can undoubtedly tell, it’s 24-hour care, and I haven’t slept much.

“I will ease off; I’m simply acutely aware of the fact that it’s a brand-new team at the moment.” Thus, although he has likely become somewhat accustomed to the hospital staff, he is currently being assisted by a brand-new team as they work towards his recovery.
It will require considerable adjustment.
The ITV documentary “Finding Derek” documented the family’s endeavor to adapt to a novel lifestyle as a result of Derek’s uncommon condition. The film examined the impact of Draper’s illness on the couple’s two children, Darcey, 15, and Billy, 11, who were both members of the couple.
In September, the program was awarded a National Television Award.
