Bob Dylan has been granted an appearance on the ITV soap opera Coronation Street after declaring he is a fan.
In a rare interview with The Wall Street Journal, the singer highlighted his fondness for the long-running ITV show.
Dylan claimed that watching the show made him feel “at home.”
Dylan could sing karaoke with the characters Ken Barlow and Rita Sullivan, Coronation Street producer Iain MacLeod told The Daily Telegraph in response.
If Dylan agreed, MacLeod offered to include the scenario in an open mic night at the Rovers Return tavern.
“The fact that Bob Dylan watches Coronation Street baffles me,” MacLeod stated.
“I would adore the notion of him appearing at the Rovers Return one evening.
“Perhaps we could compose for an open mic night, and a mysterious singer from Manchester’s rain could perform a turn.”
Dylan’s self-titled debut album was released in 1962, two years after the premiere of Coronation Street.
MacLeod continued, “Both he and Coronation Street earned their names in the 1960s, have championed working-class voices and concerns, and told stories with a unique sensibility and sense of humor.
Dylan was asked in an interview with The Wall Street Journal what he had lately binge-watched.
He responded: “Father Brown, Coronation Street, and early Twilight Zones. Even though they are outdated, they make me feel at home.
“I dislike packaged programming and news programs. I never view foul-smelling or wicked content. Nothing repulsive, nothing filthy.”
