US bomb cyclone brings UK terrible weather; yellow warning issued

As the impact of the U.S. bomb cyclone reaches the coasts on this side of the Atlantic, the United Kingdom will experience warmer temperatures, heavy rainfall, and the possibility of floods.

As the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain in Scotland, the United Kingdom will experience the consequences of the US bomb cyclone that has devastated areas of North America.

The warning is in force for 15 hours beginning at 3 a.m. on Friday, December 30 in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Stirling.

As a result of the intense cold connected with the bomb cyclone in North America, rain, wind, and warmer temperatures have reached the beaches of the United Kingdom.

According to the UK weather service, heavy rain could cause some flooding and travel disruptions, but the effects will not be as severe as those experienced in the United States.

Due to the northern blizzards raging across the pond, an air current, or jet stream, circling the Earth will intensify, resulting in seven to ten days of unsettled conditions with periods of rain and wind in the United Kingdom.

The bomb cyclone that encased houses in ice canceled thousands of flights, and left thousands without power has killed dozens of people.

How might American weather affect the United Kingdom?

The bomb cyclone exclusively affects the United Kingdom because of its effect on the jet stream in the North Atlantic.

The jet stream is a west-to-east-flowing core of strong winds five to seven miles above the Earth’s surface.

Meteorologist Simon Partridge of the Met Office stated, “The bomb cyclone has strengthened the jet stream since the jet stream is primarily driven by temperature differences.”

“Therefore, the jet stream becomes stronger as the temperature differential between its northern edge and the southern edge becomes more pronounced.”

Thursday is expected to be colder than Wednesday, with sunshine, some heavy showers, and a chance of hail and thunder in northern Scotland and western England.

Mr. Partridge predicted that Thursday will be a “cooler feeling day” that will be “still fairly windy and with showers” across the United Kingdom. He added that Friday through Sunday will be unsettling, with snow in the Highlands, showers, and rain in southern England, and frosts and fog overnight.

On Friday, wet and windy conditions with warmer temperatures are forecast.

Mr. Partridge noted that, as a result of the weather in the United States, the United Kingdom will be somewhat warmer than it normally would be at this time of year.
